AKTON Recruitment is working closely with the local authorities and we are looking for a Substance Misuse Lead in the Sutton area. 3 - 6 months contract.

Brief Description of job role and department
As Social Worker, Substance Misuse you will carry out assessments, case manage, and offer advice, support, information and guidance to adults who use substances including those who are open to formal safeguarding processes where the abuse or neglect is linked to their substance misuse. This can be linked to, for example, mental health, homelessness, domestic violence, self-neglect amongst others. To undertake this role you will have a clear understanding of the Care Act and Local Authorities statutory duties.
You will need to be dynamic, innovative and committed, experienced in and committed to working in a strength based way with external stakeholders, people and their families, as well as colleagues within local authority. You will be an expert in using a relationship-based model of social work practice and positive risk management.
You will work with treatment and other relevant services in Sutton. to ensure the right level of support is provided to enable someone to continue to live in their community and improve health and wellbeing.

Representative accountabilities

  • Deliver service activities and manage caseloads to ensure intended outcomes for residents and the Council are delivered within agreed service standards.
  • Identify and implement improvements in their own work area in order to deliver continuous service improvement and improved outcomes to residents..
  • Liaise with residents to review service requirements and resolve problems.
  • Keep up to date with changes in policy/legislation/contractual requirements in order to ensure service delivery is effective and complies with appropriate regulations.
  • Establish an accurate understanding of the needs of residents with substance misuse problems, work creatively with them to identify solutions to those needs, achieve positive outcomes and promote their independence by taking a person-centred approach to social care provision giving them choice and control over those outcomes.


Person specification (knowledge, skills, experience and behaviours required in the role)

  • Educated to degree level with appropriate professional qualification relevant to the role and specialism ie - ie CSS/CQSW or DipSW
  • Knowledge of the Care Act (2014) , Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the principles and application of excellent adult social care delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience of creating effective working relationships with internal and external individuals and organisations
  • Strong literacy, numeracy, interpersonal and IT skills.
  • Ensure all health and safety standards are adhered to for the relevant work area.
