Job Title: Senior Accountant (Multiple Roles)

Rate: £50/hr
Contract: 3 months (Hybrid)
About the Role:
Akton Recruitment are currently seeking three Senior Accountants on behalf of a local authority in Wirral. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for experienced accountants to contribute to the financial management and strategic direction of the local authority.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Senior Capital Accountant:
- Manage and report on the local authority's capital expenditure, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and policies.
- Support capital accounting functions, including accurate recording of capital expenditure and income.
- Prepare and present capital budget reports to senior management, providing analysis and advice.
- Provide financial advice to budget holders on capital projects, monitoring expenditure against budget.
- Maintain accurate records of capital assets, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Senior Technical Accountant:
- Provide accurate statutory reporting, financial management information, and monitoring of key financial assets.
- Ensure timely delivery of statutory information for the annual statement of accounts and regulatory returns.
- Undertake analytical reviews to ensure decisions are evidence-based and accurate.
- Support interpretation and delivery of changes in statutory reporting requirements.
Senior Accountant:
- Support non-finance teams in monitoring and maintaining budgets, delivering technical finance and accountancy responsibilities.
- Provide financial support and guidance to non-finance teams, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations.
- Prepare accurate financial reports, forecasts, and budgets, analysing data to identify trends and variances.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement effective financial controls and processes.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Requirements:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within a local authority or public sector environment.
- Strong understanding of financial regulations, accounting standards, and statutory requirements.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in relevant accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
