Senior Democratic Services Officer- Liverpool
£19/h

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

* responsibility for the servicing of key meetings including the necessary associated work.
* responsibility for a specific area of activity as directed.
* assisting individual cabinet members and assistant cabinet members in their roles
* lead on specific projects as required.
* to ensure the legal provisions are complied with and members and officers are advised accordingly both in relation to those provisions and the committee procedures and standing orders of the council.
* to participate in school appeals hearings.
* also required to undertake duties commensurate with the grade in relation to a post of this nature.
* to advise and provide guidance to Democratic Service Officers as appropriate including the provision of training and to assist in the training programme for elected Members.
* responsibility for the Democratic Services supporting team and the monitoring of performance as required.
* to develop and maintain effective working relationships with members, officers and all the council's customers as necessary.
* to deputise for the principal officers as appropriate.
* Maintaining strict confidentiality at all times in relation to all business.
* Operating flexibly in respect of cover for other staff in the Unit, to ensure service standard office hours are provided and meetings and events are covered.
* Creating an outcome focussed environment of continuous improvement that demonstrates support for management policy and practices and improved services.
* To participate in all aspects of training and development as directed and using all relevant learning opportunities to improve personal skills so as to improve effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery.
* To develop the City Council's commitment to equal opportunities and to promote non-discriminatory practices in all aspects of work undertaken.

The candidate will need to have experience in servicing key committees, District Committees, Select Committees, Regulatory Committees and any other meetings. The following experience is required: knowledge of how local authorities work particular in relation to the democratic process; knowledge of the constitution and legislation and the requirements relating to meetings and elected members, knowledge of the school appeals process.
