Akton Resourcing are working with the Local Authorities to fill a contract position for a Residential Childrens Worker. This role is full time and will be working in a very busy residential home that cares for young people with disabilities. Please note, experience working with young people with disabilities is neccessary to be considered for this role.

  • To provide high standards of care for children and young people, in an environment which is safe, homely and stimulating.
  • To work with and enable children and young people to achieve they're full potential.
  • To work in accordance with the Directorate's aims and objectives and through adherence to its policies, procedures and practice guidelines


  • To promote the development of children and young people, to meet their assessed needs through the provision of appropriate emotional, physical and material care.
  • To participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of individual children's care plans and undertake the role of key worker for individual children and young people.
  • To contribute to the assessment, planning and decision making processed for individual children and young people.
  • To maintain up-to-date case records and care plans in respect of individual children and young people.
  • Contribute to, develop and make themselves aware of the Individual Crisis Management Plans for children whose behaviour challenges the service.
  • Contribute to, develop and make themselves aware of the children and young peoples individual Risk Assessments.
  • Promote positive behaviour and manage difficult situations through de - escalation skills.
  • Contribute to and develop safe ways of working within the therapeutic crisis intervention framework.
  • To be responsible for the administration and safe keeping of prescribed medication.
  • With appropriate training administer medication to specific children in line with Family Services Policy
  • With appropriate training and as directed by the child's care plan carry out complex care procedures as identified and in line with Family Services Policy
  • Assisting children to develop individual non - verbal communication skills and act as the child's advocate by helping others understand the child's means of communication.
  • Provide and promote the individual child's equality, diversity and rights.
  • To attend meetings as required.
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with the children and young people, they're parents and other family members.
  • To develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff and other professionals, internal and external to the Directorate, and with neighbours and the local community.
  • To contribute to the development of the Unit's functions and activities with particular regard to the quality of service provision.
  • To contribute to the maintenance of the National Minimum Standards and support any Inspections by the Directorate or OFSTED.
  • To undertake transporting and/or escorting of children and young people to and from the Unit.
  • To work with other staff to maintain standards of decoration, cleanliness, tidiness and hygiene within the Unit.
  • In the absence of a cook, prepare, cook and serve meals in accordance with dietary requirements.
  • An expectation that the post holder will participate fully in supervision and appraisal.
  • Staff must be aware and adhere to the provision of the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensue their own safety and the safety of the children and young people and visitors.
