Public Health Consultant (Interim)- West Sussex County Council
£600/day OUTSIDE IR35

The role requires a forward-thinking individual with the drive and skills to help shape our distinctive local public health agenda.
The role will be to inform decisions that will impact on the health and wellbeing of the population of West Sussex.
As the Consultant, with the role being outside IR35, you will provide senior Public Health guidance and expertise in COVID response and support to wider public health agendas as agreed with the DPH. In addition, you will support the Director of Public Health in the management of the Covid-19 response through the day to day management and co-ordination of West Sussex County Council response management.
You will have a high level of understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice, health promotion, health economics, and health care evaluation.
Experience of working with a wide range of partners and organisations including Local Authorities, Voluntary Sector Organisations and NHS clinicians on health improvement and reduction of inequalities.
The post holder will liaise directly with the Director of Public Health, who is leading the development of a system-wide prevention strategy.
As a Consultant, you will be pivotal to this work particularly in terms of supporting the delivery of the prevention agenda, being an ambassador for this work, and developing the necessary partnerships to achieve our joint ambitions for the council and its residents. The COVID Health Consultant will work closely with West Sussex other government partners, to support to deliver critical Outbreak response activities to improve the management COVID-19 outbreak. As well as strong skills and experience in leading on complex Public Health issues, we are looking for a positive attitude and the ability to cope with multiple and changing demands.
You will be able to work flexibly and autonomously. You will be politically astute and enable elected members to maximise their positive impact on health and wellbeing.
You will be a clear communicator and able to take people with you to effect change. You will embrace diversity and be able to work and influence people from all walks of life.
Sound health protection knowledge, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with strong skills in partnership working.
The ability to grasp technical areas quickly and adapt to changing priorities is also important.
