Planning Consultant

Job Role
Offer a wide range of advice on all matters concerned with planning, development and environmental issues which surround a building project.

Customer service:

Provide an efficient and business-like point of contact. This includes responding to internal and external enquiries and (via face-to-face, telephone, email)
Deliver a consistent and professional level of customer service at all times to Clients and other practices within the industry, and provide advice to various clients we service in both the private and public sectors
Play a key role in developing our Planning and Development Service

Business delivery:

Developing planning policy at a national, regional or local level, taking into account transport, the local economy, jobs, green infrastructure, renewable energy, climate change and the historic environment
Reviewing and monitoring existing planning policy documents
Assisting with the preparation and implementation of transport policies and strategies to create an efficient transport network, possibly including cycle routes, rail and road routes and or runways
Helping to ensure that areas are attractive, safe and pleasant to live, work in and visit
Working to energise places that have become run-down
Balancing the needs of a growing population with environmental impacts
Conducting appropriate research to inform planning applications
Helping to draft and review planning applications
Assisting with consultations and negotiations with consultants and developers
Enforcing planning controls for developments
Assisting with the provision of services to clients and contributing to projects
Producing and assessing planning submissions, appeals, design and access statements and other documents
Managing a client portfolio
Help our clients maximise the value of their assets
Understand the planning system and how it applies to real life property decisions
Discuss planning issues with a wide variety of client types
Bring meaningful amounts of new work into the business on your own initiative
Work closely with and take instructions from colleagues from within the planning and renewable energy teams as well as other referred instructions
Secure verbal and written instructions and prepare detailed terms of engagement
Review, monitor and influence Local Plan processes
Develop strategy to maximise client's position
Establish and maintain contact with identified stakeholders, particularly the LPA
Prepare and present cases for public presentation with full supporting documents
Negotiate amendments to proposals within context of client instructions
Advise on LPA decision/conditions and way forward
Develop creative and original planning solutions to satisfy all parties
Research and analyse data to help inform strategic developments, such as increases in affordable housing provision
Design layouts and draft design statements
Schedule available resources to meet planning targets
Write reports, often of a complex nature, which make recommendations or explain detailed regulations. These reports may be for a range of groups, from borough councils to regional assemblies, or members of the public

It's essential you have:

Qualifications accredited by the RTPI
Proven experience as a Planning Consultant or equivalent
Up to date knowledge of Government Policy and relevant statutory legislation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Effective verbal and written communication skills across a range of contacts
Ability to work effectively under pressure
Strong organisational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking

Communicate with all staff efficiently
Knowledge of the complaints handling procedure
Negotiate with developers and other professionals, such as surveyors and architects

BIM roles and responsibilities:

Ensure Asset Information requirements and/or MIDP requirements set out in the Employers Information Requirements are delivered on a BIM project
Enable reliable information exchange through a common data environment
Enable integration and co-ordination of information within information model
Configure information for project outputs
Assure delivery of information exchanges
Confirm supplier's ability to deliver information requirements
Co-ordinated delivery of all design information
Manage information development and information approvals
Direct the production of task information in compliance with standards and methods. Both

Oversee team to ensure compliance of their job responsibilities
