NGMS Training & Usability Project
Manager- Met Office
£411/day

The Met Office has embarked on a major new Next Generation Modelling Systems Programme to, "develop our
next generation modelling systems required to operationally exploit next generation high performance computing
in the 2020s". To meet this objective, much of the underpinning capability for our existing modelling infrastructure
is being replaced requiring a significant investment in developing our people to meet this challenge. Such an
investment is essential so that Met Office scientists, software engineers and external collaborators can continue to
develop and improve the delivered next generation systems long after the Programme is closed. We are seeking
an experienced Project Manager to initiate and manage the new Next Generation Modelling System Training
Project - working with colleagues in our People Development function - which has the following scope:
1. Development of training materials -ensure training materials are authored in a consistent format on a
platform (likely Met Office Learning Portal) accessible to Met Office staff and collaborators alike. This will
also need to include a compute environment to support the learning solutions.
2. Delivery of training materials - initial release of materials and as part of an ongoing initiative, implement
lifecycle management following the training cycle
3. Transition to project to business-as-usual activity at close - support the transition of training material
lifecycle management and course delivery to business as usual in a sustainable way. Facilitate a
performance need analysis to assess high-level needs for training across broader, downstream areas of
the Met Office and recommend ways forward and next steps.
4. Improvement of the usability of next generation modelling systems - based on training and initial
delivery, identify and promote areas for improvement to the usability of NGMS. This will likely be training
evaluation, engagement with Met Office user experience (UX) team and proposals for improvements to
usability through the Project Board.
