Media & Campaigns Officer- Hillingdon
£240/day

? Act as a communications business partner for identified council business areas,
providing professional media advice to the senior management team and to
ensure communications issues are cascaded to and managed within the
Corporate Communications team
? Provide professional marketing and communications advice to staff, managers
and councillors on all communications, publicity and promotional issues and
ensure value for money
? Ensure appropriate response to complaints and member enquiries within agreed
timescales. Lead on required actions and ensure analysis of complaints and
enquiries contributes to service planning.
? Manage proactive and reactive media relations:
- Liaise with and answer enquiries from media, individuals and other
organisations, seeking advice and guidance as required from senior
managers
- Write and distribute press releases to targeted media
- Monitor publicity and research the concerns and expectations of the
council's stakeholders; to report and explain the findings to management;
- Collate and analyse media coverage
- Manage the media aspect of any emergency or unexpected situation
which may arise within the borough
- Liaise with colleagues and key spokespeople
? Work with senior managers and elected members to deliver proactive
campaigns, utilising the full marketing and communications mix. Including:
- Market research, setting objectives, proposing the campaign plan and
budget
- Preparing publicity materials for print, video and photographs
- Ensuring publications are of a high quality by implementing appropriate
proofing and checking mechanisms
- Managing the production process of campaign materials
- Devising and coordinating photo opportunities, commissioning and
briefing photographers
- Organising campaign events including launches, press conferences,
exhibitions, open days and press tours
? Write articles for in-house publications, case studies, speeches, and reports
? Maintain and update information on the council's website;
? Engage with users on social media - managing and updating social media
information
? Attend to the code of recommended practice on local authority publicity
? Promote a positive image of the council and the London Borough of Hillingdon
through the delivery of proactive behaviour change campaigns
? Ensure that all publicity conforms to the council corporate branding and identify
guidelines so that all published material (print and electronic) is of a consistent
and high standard
? Plan organise and deliver public and staff events roadshows conferences and
award ceremonies
? Where appropriate work with and provide professional marketing advice and
support to external organisations and partners


Demonstrable experience in media liaison
Demonstrable experience in campaign conceptualisation and
successful management of campaigns to deadlines and budget.
Demonstrable experience of providing high quality journalism for
newspapers, magazines or newsletters to deadlines and budget.

Demonstrable ability to apply the use of social media
appropriately within a PR or campaigns environment
Demonstrable ability to identify potential news stories and
features

Current knowledge of full range of distribution mechanisms,
including ability to evaluate the success of chosen methods. ?
Ability to build credibility with colleagues at all levels and provide
professional advice.

Ability to write quality, lively and readable copy on a range of
subjects, appropriate to relevant audiences and edit copy from
other authors

Knowledge of the relevant legislation and codes of practice
affecting communications in local government
Excellent ICT skills including the ability to use service specific
software

Ability to work on own initiative to plan and manage a range of
competing priorities and projects and meet critical deadlines.
Ability to handle sensitive situations and maintain confidentiality
