Leisure Commissioning Officer - Policy & Strategy - Kingston upon Thames
£20/h

We are looking for an experienced professional who has ideally worked within a Local Authority or National Governing Body of sport, to lead on the delivery of reinvigorating Kingston's Community Sport and Physical Activity Network and to lead on the development of a new sport, physical activity and leisure strategy for Kingston, which will be aligned with the Sport England 10-year strategy 'Uniting the Movement' to ensure Kingston is well placed to secure support and investment.

Kingston Community Sport and Physical Activity Network
This network brings key strategic partners together to collectively plan and deliver physical activity, health and sporting interventions through the shared objectives and key strategic issues that will be set out in the new Kingston leisure strategy. It will also have a focus on the Borough's ongoing recovery from the impact of COVID and provide the platform to apply for external funding available across the sectors to improve the Health of the Nation. The original network was formed in 2007 and was established as part of Sport England's delivery system for sport. The network was a means for enhancing communication and cooperation between partners who were aspiring to increase participation in sport and physical activity in the Borough. Since 2018, the network has ceased to exist due to a number of changes in personnel. However, locally there are considerable opportunities emerging as a result of a number of interdependent activities. The network would be the delivery vehicle to provide strategic and operational direction of the Kingston Leisure Strategy. Core stakeholders will include Council officers as well as key external stakeholders from organisations and community groups who all have an interest in increasing physical activity levels in the Borough. A review of the former network's membership is required to ensure the membership of a reinvigorated network is updated and relevant.

Developing a new Sport, Physical Activity and Leisure Strategy for Kingston
Kingston does not currently have a strategy and in order for future support and investment to be secured it is important a strategy is produced and aligned with the Sport England 'Uniting the Movement' strategy. In January 2021, Sport England published 'Uniting the Movement' , their 10-year vision to transform lives and communities through sport and physical activity. As the country adapts and rebuilds from the huge disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Kingston needs to collectively reimagine how we keep movement, sport and activity central to the lives of everyone. In doing so, we will harness its power, and improve people's lives in so many ways. Sport and physical activity has a big role to play in improving the physical and mental health of the Borough, supporting the economy, reconnecting communities and rebuilding a stronger society for all. The strategy will encourage and strengthen partnerships to ensure a sustainable local network approach is embedded to provide sport and physical activity opportunities across the Borough.
