Graduate / Trainee Building Services Engineer
Ipswich
£15,000-£22,000

Job Role
To be an active member within the building services team. Delivering building services designs throughout the company; assisting with ensuring fundamental building services and sustainable principles contribute to building design, ensuring both compliance and quality of installations.

Team worker:

Work within an integrated M&E department consisting of, CAD technicians, Trainees, Intermediates, Seniors and Principals
Reporting directly to line mangers
Active member of the building services team supporting colleagues and working collaboratively to develop the business
Proactively engaging with other professions within the business assisting with building services and sustainable design
Adopt a flexible working approach
Take ownership for own personal development

Customer service:

Represent the company as a whole throughout industry in a professional manor
Provide an efficient and business-like point of contact. This includes responding to internal and external enquiries and (via face to face, telephone, email)
Work collaboratively with other professionals within the Practice and also with Contractors/Suppliers
Offer support to clients, exceeding their expectations and delivering first-class service

Business delivery:

Assist with producing appropriate reports, drawings and specifications of compliant mechanical building services design including heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and water services
Assist with preparation of design calculations on industry-standard software
Assist with producing industry-standard tender packages, undertaking analysis of tenders, monitoring and management of cost, quality and timescales
Accompany seniors to site surveys, inspections and monitoring
Adopt a proactive approach within the business in the delivery of building services designs throughout the company
Flexible approach to working
Ensure compliant and consistent sustainable design is maintained
Actively seek to understand Building Regulations (BR) part L2 analyses of new and existing buildings from conception through to completion and EPC lodgement (SBEM/SAP/BRUKL/DECS)
Use of thermal modelling software to provide heating and cooling load calculations for use in engineering design work with assistance
Use of software to produce daylight modelling, natural ventilation simulations and overheating analyses and façade analyses (TM52 etc) with assistance

Communicate effectively:

It's essential that you have:

Science-based A Levels
Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Good standard of literacy and numeracy
Able to work effectively under pressure managing delivery of multiple projects simultaneously
Have the desire to undertake further academic study to achieve progression (HNC/HND and above)
