Energy Analyst

Our client, a leading district energy company, are looking for 2 Energy Analysts to join their Asset Intelligence team. This is an exciting opportunity to further your experience within the District Energy sector.

In this role you will be a central player in the day to day energy analysis activities of the business supporting operations and engineering offering a varied and dynamic role.

This role forms part of a team whose purpose is to:

* Design and build energy optimisation models which integrate with the operational planning and financial process. Comparing energy purchase, use and consumption to deliver maximum efficiency and best value using Microsoft Excel and bespoke software (e.g. Energy Pro)
* Ongoing analysis and modelling of the energy schemes trends and performance, diagnosing and recommendations for rectification to ensure that energy is delivered consistently and efficiently to meet contractual requirements
* Report on energy efficiency and financial performance of energy sales across a range of sites.
* Identify adverse trends and identify opportunities for improvements
* Maintain and develop data collection and processing methods to allow effective internal and external reporting

Internal Deliverables

* Measure, monitor and report on plant physical performance

  • Thermal and cooling efficiencies
  • Electrical efficiencies
  • Operational regimes
  • Plant outputs


* Investigate and improve all system losses

  • Thermal losses
  • Electrical losses
  • Parasitic loads


* Measure, monitor and report on plant financial performance

  • Production of month end financial performance reports
  • Perform variance to budget analysis
  • Liaise with finance teams
  • Assist with the formation of energy budgets
  • Attend monthly financial meetings to investigate and discuss financial and operational performance against budget
  • Assist in the building of Annual Financial Models



* Identify energy savings opportunities

  • Assess the current performance of the energy schemes and recommend improvement changes and upgrades (control set points, VSDs etc.)
  • Identify new energy saving opportunities and conduct surveys and feasibilities studies with the Energy Manager (e.g. boilers economisers, low temperature absorption chillers)
  • Identify opportunities to improve high return temperatures in our systems



* Asset intelligence team interactions

  • Work in conjunction with Asset Intelligence team on options and technology to improve efficiency
  • Carry out thermal & electrical balances identifying and rectifying any imbalances where possible
  • Refer any unresolved energy imbalances to Asset Intelligence team
  • Suggest new ideas/solutions that could improve the performance of the energy schemes


Qualifications or Required Experience:
* Motivated and professional energy analyst who wishes to commit to a role which will provide both opportunity and challenge
* Qualified to a minimum 2:1 degree level in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent Engineering Discipline
* An understanding of the principals of district energy and CHP
* Heating and cooling system design including a range of generation system (CHP, Biomass, Boilers etc..) would be an advantage
* Knowledge of energy software (e.g. Energy Pro) would be an advantage
* Must be both positive and proactive when approaching all tasks
* Demonstrable competence in the use of Microsoft Excel is essential
* Knowledge of Controls, VSDs and Metering Systems would be an advantage
* Member of a professional Institute and working towards chartership would be an advantage
