Akton recruitment has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Data Protection & Privacy Officer.

Job Role: Data Protection & Privacy Officer

Job Purpose

Working within the Records and Information Management Team, this role will be responsible for providing expert advice on all aspects of Privacy and Data Protection within the council.

The role will report to the Records and Information Service Manager (and Data Protection Officer) and will work primarily alongside the Deputy Data Protection Officer handling day to day data protection advice work.

The holder of this role will be expected to be able to advise independently on all aspects of data protection and privacy to an expert level. Taking responsibility and making decisions for the council on data protection matters, whilst maintaining a high level of confidentiality and discretion in dealing with both complex and contentious matters.

The role will also act as guidance and support to the two Information Management Officers within the team, acting as their point of escalation on complex cases.

  1. Key Accountabilities/Duties/Responsibilities:

Legislative Compliance/Legal Advice

  • Maintain a high level of legal knowledge in all areas of information management. Keeping abreast of legislative changes, codes of practice and decision notices to ensure your advice remains relevant and up to date.
  • Research, interpret and apply complex legislation and case law on information management and other legislation affecting local authorities, as they apply to and interact with information management, including social care, housing, planning and copyright for example.
  • Ability to interpret advice and instruction given by the ICO, government departments and other agencies and provide briefings and recommendations to the Data Protection Officer or senior management as required.
