CNC Machinist / Mechanical Technician

Akton Recruitment are on the lookout for a CNC Machinist / Mechanical Technician in the Edinburgh area – we are working with a company who is a world leader in subsea wireless automation. They are seeking innovative engineers to join their team to support the design, build and delivery of the latest generation of smart wireless devices and solutions.
 
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Management of prototype and production manufacturing workshop
  • Production of high-quality parts using both hard plastics and stainless steel for subsea enclosures using milling machine / lathe and hand tools as required.
  • Design and build of jigs and fixtures
  • Participate in the design of new products
  • Assist in the build and test of prototype and production equipment
  • Inspection of incoming material to ensure it meets specification
  • Positive and proactive interaction with all areas of business
  • Deal with customers and suppliers as required
  • Support production with build and test of new, innovative prototype products
  • Integration of 3rd party devices & modules within our proprietary systems
  • Work with production technicians to bench test and field trial new products, to ensure the highest standards of reliability, performance and usability as required.
  • Produce high quality components to tight tolerances in a commercial time frame.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Quality Check your own Work
  • Keeping area clean and tidy and carrying out general maintenance routines on equipment
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
 
  • Approved and documented Time Served Apprenticeship Desirable
  • City and Guilds / HNC / HND level with 2 years + experience working as a machinist
  • Program, set and operate CNC mill
    • XYZ RMX conversational programming
  • Set and operate manual lathe
  • Demonstrates a methodical approach to manufacturing and building of equipment

  • Good communication skills
  • Enthusiastic and committed to broadening technical skills and experience
  • Computer literate
  • Driving license would be advantageous
  • Has a “can-do”, positive attitude when faced with problems and production deadlines
