Chief Officer For Legal And Democratic Svc- Bedford
£700/day

To act as the Council's principal legal adviser and discharge the statutory duties of the Monitoring Officer and to ensure the Council performs its functions in accordance with the law and the principles of good governance.

To lead and have responsibility for Legal Services, Democratic & Member Services. Electoral and Registration Services and Information Governance.

To act as the Council's Senior Information Risk Officer and Data Protection Officer

To be a fully participating member of the Council's Senior Management Team

A * Educated to degree level or equivalent and Admitted Solicitor or Barrister (England and Wales) with a current Practising Certificate.
B * Significant experience operating at a senior level
C * Understanding of the legal and regulatory framework within which the Council operates
D * Knowledge of relevant law and corporate governance issues relating to local government
E * Knowledge of the Monitoring Officer role in an upper tier authority
F * Experience building and running high performing teams beyond direct reports
G * A demonstrable commitment to customer service
H * Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with a proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and customers
I * Inspirational, highly motivated, enthusiastic leader, with a clear vision and unrelenting commitment to service users
J * Advocate of digital ways of working and championing change
K * Politically astute and sensitive with an ability to make progress in complex policy areas
L * Strong corporate orientation and a commitment to work in a broad cross cutting manner across the Council and its partners
M * Integrity, conduct and credibility that engage and command the confidence of service users, elected Members, colleagues and other stakeholders
N * Understanding of diversity in employment and service delivery
O * Thorough understanding of the diverse roles of local authority members and the need to respond sensitively, but where appropriate, robustly to the demands that arise.
