Akton Recruitment has a vacancy for an Account Assistant in Swindon

Role profile and requirements for Coronavirus Business Grant Processor Temps 21-12-20
The Government provides support grants for those businesses which have been most severely affected by
COVID-19. Swindon Borough Council takes the Government's guidance and rules for each scheme,
creates, and promotes online application forms and then processes and pays eligible applicants.
Since March, Council staff have been processing the grants alongside (or in some cases instead of) their
day to day roles. We are now looking for a team to take on this role, working with the Business & Economy
Manager to assess the applications.
Each scheme has its own criteria, some set by the Government and some by the Local Authority, but each
one has its own set of guidance and back office checking instructions. We are looking for a small team to
take on the role of following the instructions, assessing the applications and recommending payment of
grants or refusal.
These grants are essential to support Swindon's economy and many businesses may not have survived
the year without them.
Essential requirements:
? Good computer skills:
o All applications are made via an internet form and the team will assess them online.
o Training and on-going support will be provided, but Processors must have the ability to click
on and through an online form, downloading attachments and moving from 1 application to
o We also use Microsoft Teams or Sharepoint and Microsoft excel. Again, training will be
given, but you will need to know the basics.
? Basic analysis skills:
o Each application is slightly different, so Processors will need to read and understand the
rules, try to find the relevant answers within the application, and at times may need to carry
out some desktop research into the company.
o Again, support is available from the Manager, but some judgement calls will need to be
made by the Processing Team.
? Good communication skills:
o Many times, we need to ask the applicant for clarity or for further information. This must be
done simply and politely, even if the applicants are stressed and upset.
o Also, Processors must convey questions on applications to the Manager or Audit Team
? Self-reliance:
o Again, although support is provided (remotely) each day, Processors will be expected to login and process grants within their agreed hours.
o We do not set processing targets but do need Processors to work smartly and efficiently to
avoid a back log of applications
