Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Homeless Prevention and Housing Allocations Teams, providing housing advice, allocation, and assistance to residents in need.
  • Proactively lead the service to deliver housing options advice and prevent homelessness through statutory assessments.
  • Manage the council's allocation and re-housing services, including maintenance of the housing register and resolution of housing-related issues.
  • Select, develop, and manage the performance of the Homeless Prevention and Housing Allocations Teams in line with council policies.
  • Ensure effective communication to maintain team engagement with the council's vision and priorities.
  • Manage and deliver panels enabling key groups to access suitable housing and support, ensuring consistency and transparency.
  • Ensure the delivery of a professional, responsive, and individualised service to residents requiring housing advice.
  • Oversee the operational delivery of frontline services, maintaining high-quality casework management and customer-focused contact arrangements.
  • Lead all aspects of housing register and allocations functions, ensuring applications are processed and assessed within agreed time scales and policies.

Requirements:

  • Degree level education in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Management qualification to diploma level.
  • Membership of a recognised professional body.
  • Expert knowledge in the operational delivery of statutory homelessness or housing allocations services.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in an emergency out-of-hours housing service rota.
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of the service.
  • Significant management experience in leading demand-led, client-facing teams.
  • Experience in complex casework and case management systems.
  • Successful track record operating at a management level in housing or similar organisations.
